Historical Note

The Society for the Preservation of Birds of Prey was established in 1966 to bring together raptor enthusiasts who wanted to encourage legislation to protect raptors and raptor habitat and to educate the public about raptors. The Society opposed falconry and private ownership and discouraged captive breeding except to restock wild populations of birds. The Society was headed by J. Richard Hilton.
