Biographical Note
Robert T. Pollard came to the University of Washington in 1931 as Assistant Professor of Oriental Studies. In 1934 he became Associate Professor and, in 1937, Professor. He died April 13, 1939.
The Department of Oriental Studies became the Far Eastern and Russian Institute in 1946. In 1970(?) the name was changed again to the Institute for Comparative and Foreign Area Studies.
