Content Description
The collection deals with the mining and social life of Eastern Utah during the first half of the 20th century. With the photographs, Virginia Stevenson Allee also sent a letter which is included in the photographs collection. An excerpt from the letter follows:
My Grandfather, Clarence H. Stevenson, Jr., was the owner of the Stevenson Lumber Yard in Price Utah from early in the 1900's to 1936. Following his death, the entire family, including Clarence, Jr. and his wife and children, moved to Los Angeles.
Prior to his move to Price, he was superintendent of the Kenilworth mine. Before that, he was involved with mining in Colorado as a superintendent at Spring Gulch, and before that a Master Mechanic of the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company in Denver. His job was to keep the mines running, and he was on the road constantly meeting one emergency after another throught the years. His move to Utah gave him a chance to live at with his family for a change.
The collection contains photographs of Myton, Vernal, Price, Helper, Hiawatha, and Kenilworth. Most of the collection deals with the Kenilworth mine and life there. The photographs are in excellent condition.
