Biographical Note
Margaret Malarkey Cabell, nee Margaret Malarkey, was born in Portland, Oregon, in 1894. In 1914, she and Vernon Alexander Cartwright were married; they later had two children, then divorced in 1928. In 1931, she remarried to Henry Failing Cabell. She was a charter member of the Portland Garden Club, and later served as secretary and president of the club's board. She also served as director of the board of the Garden Club of America, and was involved in the founding of Portland's Japanese Garden, as well as a Portland chapter of the Bonsai Society. She was also member of the Junior League and a charter member of the Town Club. She died in 1985.

Content Description
This oral history interview with Margaret M. Cabell was conducted by Gail H. Evans at Cabell's home in Portland, Oregon, on May 4, 1978, as part of the Portland Neighborhood History Project. The project was conducted by Portland Parks and Recreation in the late 1970s, and consisted of interviews with people who moved to or lived in the Portland metropolitan area from the early to mid-1900s.
In this interview, Cabell discusses her life in the King's Hill area of the Goose Hollow neighborhood of Portland after her marriage to Henry F. Cabell in 1931. She describes the house she lived in. She describes other houses in the area, talks about people who lived there, and speaks about business in the area. She also talks about her early life in the Portland Heights neighborhood, including riding the streetcar. She closes the interview by talking about how the neighborhoods have changed over her lifetime.
