Biographical Note

E.T. Becher, historian, taught at Rogers High School in Spokane, Washington from 1934 to 1967. In addition, he wrote many books and articles on the history of Spokane, including "Spokane Corona: Eras and Empires." He was born in Iowa and graduated from the University of Idaho in 1927. He received his masters degree from the University of Washington in 1932 and began teaching at Rogers High School that year. He also served as social studies director for Spokane School District #81. He died in Spokane in 1994.

One typewritten manuscript (121 p.) written by E.T. Becher for KSPS TV in Spokane. According to Becher, "the object is to illustrate and augment material which may be found in textbooks. Examples of various phases of pioneer life will be included." The manuscript is divided into segments such as "types of pioneers," "education," "pioneer food," "water," "pioneer recreation and entertainment," "fashion and dress," "woman suffrage," "Glover's stock in trade," and "hard times and depressions." The manuscript is brief, and is a survey of other material.
