Biographical Note
Jack C. Hood served three terms as a Washington State Legislator and was the former chairman of the Washington State Liquor Control Board. He was born in Ferndale, Washington and attended Whitman College, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He also briefly served in the US Navy. After graduating from Whitman College, he joined his father's bank as a teller. In 1965, he was appointed State Banking Supervisor by Governor Dan Evans. In 1968, he was appointed to the state Liquor Control Board. During his time with the Liquor Control Board, Hood helped clear the way for beer sales at the Kingdome. He also pushed for canceling the liquor licenses of private clubs that practiced discrimination. He was indicted on charges of grand larceny and fraud for allegedly accepting free samples of liquor of companies looking for sales approval but the charges were later thrown out. When he retired from the board, Hood moved to Bahia de Kino, Mexico, and served as a part-time preacher for a small, nondenominational church. Hood died on February 9, 1992.
