Historical Note

In 1918 the City of Seattle adopted its own streetcar network after a formerly municipal-run streetcar line was purchased by investors. Initially called the Municipal Street Railway System, the streetcars transitioned to an all-bus network in 1940, and the agency was reorganized as the Seattle Transit System.
