Historical NoteReturn to Top
Zane Grey was an American author of western stories which took inspiration from Grey’s point of view of the frontier. While working on becoming a writer, Grey and his wife lived in New York City where Grey operated a small dental practice. First visiting in 1905 on his honeymoon, Grey returned to Arizona to embark on a wild adventure with “Buffalo Jones.” This trip proved to inspire a slew of western novels, of which Riders of the Purple Sage—his bestselling—was one. Grey helped establish the Western genre as it is known today.
