Historical Note
Daniel Isaac Axelrod, a paleobotany educator, received his M.S. degree in 1936 and his Ph. D. in 1938 from the University of California. He began his professional career as a technician at the California Forest and Range Experiment Station in 1934. Following his positions at the United States National Museum and the Carnegie Institution of Washington, he became a professor of geology at the University of California, Los Angeles from 1946-1968. He became professor of botany at the University of California, Davis in 1968.

The collection contains reprints of articles by Axelrod. His research fields include tertiary paleobotany, evolution of vegetation, paleoecology, paleoclimate, and plate tectonics and angiosperm evolution.
