Beverly Snodgrass Papers, 1967-1968

Beverly Snodgrass was born Beulah Maxine Snodgrass but preferred to be called Beverly. She lived in Great Falls, Montana where she met and married Maurice Cameron on May 27, 1958. The couple continued to live in Great Falls until their separation three years later. They never reunited but did not seek an official divorce. Soon after the separation Snodgrass moved to Butte, Motnana. In 1961, Snodgrass opened a brothel located at 14 South Wyoming Street in Butte. She met James D. Freebourn, a local lawyer, who assisted her in starting the brothel. Prior to running the brothel, Snodgrass held other jobs, including working as a waitress. In exchange for monthly payments to the local authorities Snodgrass was given permission to operate her business. Her brothel prospered, which prompted her to open a second branch at 9 Mercury Street in Butte. Snodgrass's business operated until approximately the late 1960s.
