Content Description
In this collection, there are materials pertaining to the College of Forestry's 50th anniversary; materials include correspondence, reels from recorded speakers at the event, donations, registration, and budget details. Correspondence throughout the collection highlight Dean Francis G. Miller and Dean Ernest Wohletz as well as other faculty, students, and alumni between the years of 1917 and 1971. This collection also contains the building records for the College of Natural Resources Building, teaching materials, during and post-World War II, and the College of Forestry's international programs and services such as the Foster Forestry Fellowship. Photos in this collection primarily show areas of Idaho, Washington, and Oregon and serve educational purposes for situations such as forest fires.
Historical Note
The College of Natural Resources has been titled as such since 2000 but began in 1909 as the Department of Forestry within the College of Agriculture and has gone through a few different titles as the area of study grew. This collection primarily covers the time periods in which it was called the College of Forestry in 1953 and then the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Range Sciences from 1963 up to 1988 when the collection ends. The building they now occupy, the College of Natural Resources Building, was completed in 1972 but was in the works for nearly a decade under the direction of Ernest Wohletz who was the dean of the College of Forestry from 1953 to 1971.
