Joseph V. Smith (1867-1957) was a Utah life insurance salesman who was an original member of the Salt Lake Association of Life Underwiters. In 1905, he began working for the New York Life Insurance Company (Nylic). This collection contains 2 blackc-and-white photographs depicting Smith at a Nylic event honoring his career.

Biographical Note

The images in the John W. Smith photograph collection relate to Joseph V. Smith. Joseph Vernon Smith was born in Utah on March 8, 1867. On June 10, 1891, Smith married Agnes Harriet Timms; together, they had at least one daughter. Prior to his career in the insurance industry, Smith worked at Union Pacific and Salt Lake Brewing Company. He was one of the original members of the Salt Lake Association of Life Underwriters. His career at New York Life Insurance Company started in February 1905. He worked there for at least 50 years. Joseph V. Smith died on July 30, 1957 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Content Description

The John W. Smith photograph collection consists of two black-and-white photographs related to Joseph V. Smith. The images depict Joseph V. Smith being honored by Nylic (New York Life Insurance Company) and with a group of four men, circa 1955. These two images were separated from the John W. Smith papers (ACCN 3240), which has material about both John W. and Joseph V. Smith; however, these images relate only to Joseph V. Smith.
