Biographical Note
Louis Wasmer was a pioneer in radio broadcasting in Washington State. He built an experimental radio station in Seattle in 1907 and in 1925 came to Spokane where he began a long and successful career as a radio and television entrepreneur. His Spokane radio station holdings included KHQ, KREM, KGA, KSPO, and KFIO. He founded KREM television in Spokane. Wasmer was active in Republican politics and unsuccessfully sought the Republican gubernatorial nomination in 1944.
Content Description
The bulk of the collection consists of materials relating to Wasmer’s 1944 gubernatorial nomination campaign, and includes printed publicity (newspaper and broadsides), original drafts of Louis Jackson’s political commentaries on radio station KHQ, and letters and petitions of support. Also included are transcripts of gubernatorial candidate Arthur B. Langlie’s speeches, 1940. There are a few odd items concerning Wasmer’s real estate developments and a variety of certificates and other memorabilia.
