Historical Note

Everett Lyell Knight (1894-1957) was born in Laramie, Wyoming to Wilbur Clinton Knight (1858-1903) and Elizabeth Howell Knight (1866-1928). Wilbur Knight was an assistant territorial geologist in Wyoming from 1886 to 1887. He was promoted to manager and superintendent of mines in Colorado and Wyoming from 1888 to 1892. He then became professor of mining at the University of Wyoming. Elizabeth Knight served as Dean of Women at the University of Wyoming from 1903 until her death in 1928. Everett married Laura Crompton in 1921.

Laura Crompton Knight (1901-1972) was born in Almy, Wyoming to Walter D. Crompton (1871-1947) and Elizabeth Mills Crompton (1876-1946).

Collection contains a book by Bob Hope; photographs of the Standard Oil Company refinery construction in Laramie, Wyoming; a program of events for the Semicentennial celebration of the University of Wyoming; deck plans for ships of the Atlantic Transport Line; and a collection of ivory, paper, plastic, silk, and wooden palm fans.
