Historical Note

The Authentic Society was created at the State University of Montana (now known as University of Montana) in Missoula in 1913 by Professor A.W. L. Bray and eight undergraduate students, as a philosophical club. In 1916, the members decided to rebrand as a local fraternity, becoming Alpha Delta Alpha. On May 12th, 1927, the organization was granted chartership to become the Delta Omicron chapter of Kappa Sigma national fraternity. The fraternity was active on the campus, boasting high grade marks from membership and varsity letter status from several members in a variety of athletics. The Delta Omicron chapter was active from 1913 until becoming inactive from 1933-2007. In 2007, the fraternity was re-chartered. Notable alumni of Alpha Delta Alpha include Dr. Harold C. Urey, 1934 Chemistry Nobel Laureate, and Ronald Stuart Kain, foreign affairs journalist.
