Historical Background
Located on the Olympic Peninsula, on the western side of Puget Sound, Shelton, Washington is the largest city and county seat in Mason County, Washington. Between 1855 and 1975, Shelton served as one of the nation's premier log exporting centers. The downtown core features stone and brick architecture from the World War I era, when the town was rebuilt after a large, destructive fire.
