Historical Note

In 1955, the Idaho legislature reopened the Lewiston college under a new name: Lewis-Clark Normal School. After its reopening, Lewis-Clark Normal School operated as a branch of the University of Idaho. Its focus was primarily teaching and early education. The school regained its autonomy in the early 1960s, restoring its status to an independent, four-year undergraduate institution. In 1965, it became Lewis-Clark State College.
