Glen Barrett Collection on Boise State University, 1920-1984

Research files and interview notes relating to the history of Boise State University, founded 1932 as Boise Junior College; and manuscript of Barrett's book, Boise State University: Searching for Excellence, which was published in 1983.

The book is divided into three parts. The first is a recounting of the social and economic climate of Idaho prior to the school's founding. Approximately one-half of the manuscript is devoted to the junior college years (1932-1964). The final section is concerned with the four-year institution. In his contract, Barrett was instructed by the BSU's "History Committee" to include human interest events within and beyond the campus and the school's relationship within the community.

The collection maintains Dr. Barrett original filing system. Much of the information in the files (in photocopy form) was drawn from the Boise State University Archives. The papers also contain notes from interviews with individuals who participated in the growth of Boise Junior College into Idaho's largest university.
