Historical Note

Amy Lawrence was a journalist and Wyoming historian. She was born and raised in Laramie, Albany County, Wyoming to a local ranching family, William and Rena (Palmer) Lawrence. Lawrence attended the University of Wyoming, receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and winning Miss Laramie Jubilee Days in 1942. She worked as a journalist for the Laramie Boomerang and the Casper Tribune Herald, served as the Rocky Mountain editor for Horse Lover’s Magazine, and was an advertising manager for Rodeo Sports News. In 1980, Amy returned to the Laramie Valley where she pursued her interests in Wyoming history, becoming involved in the Albany County Historic Preservation Board, Albany County/Wyoming State Historical Societies, Nici Self Museum, Laramie Plains Museum, Wyoming Association of Professional Historians, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. In 1995, Lawrence obtained her Master of Arts in American Studies/Historical Preservation from the University of Wyoming. She passed away on July 17, 2019.
