Historical Note

The Valley of the Three Worlds project was conceived in the spring of 1985 to research, preserve, interpret and disseminate the history and cultural heritage of Wyoming’s Wind River Valley. Through a series of public programs, it sought to promote an understanding of the history, traditions and achievements of the Arapaho, Shoshone, and Euro-American cultures and the ways in which each has perceived and influenced the other. It was anticipated that the project would promote cross-cultural understanding and historical awareness and initiate further research and public programming while Wyoming was approaching its centennial celebration in 1990.
