Historical NoteReturn to Top
Omicron Nu, a national Home Economics honorary, was formed in 1912 at Michigan Agricultural University (later Michigan State University). The WSU chapter joined in May, 1919, becoming the Kappa chapter, the first chapter on the west coast.
In 1990, Omicron Nu and Kappa Omicron Phi merged to form Kappa Omicron Nu. As the Kappa chapter of Omicron Nu, WSU was redesignated the Omicron Kappa chapter of Kappa Omicron Nu.

The collection consists primarily of minutes and reports originating with the WSU chapter (Kappa chapter) of Omicron Nu, a national Home Economics honorary. Present are minutes, chapter reports, financial records, histories of the local chapter, and membership lists and cards. Some photographic prints and slides from the 1970s to 2000s are also included. A few sets of minutes of national conclaves are also present.
Series 1 is membership records, including membership cards and lists of members by year. Series 2 is records connected to WSU’s local chapter. Series 3 is minutes and other materials related to various National Conclaves. Series 4 is the photographs, in various formats, in the collection.

Arrangement
The collection is arranged into four short series by subject.
Acquisition Information
Deborah Jean Handy donated the initial installment his collection to the Washington State University Libraries on Nov. 9, 2022, where it was retained as UA 2022-14. The second and final installment of these materials was received from Debbie at MASC on Jan. 3, 2023, and incorporated into the existing accession number.
Processing Note
University Archivist Mark O’English accessioned this collection in December of 2022. The initial intake was two boxes (with two more arriving in January, 2023), but all national publications, which were a large part of the donation, were discarded. Prior to discarding, we checked with Michigan State University, which holds the closest thing we could identify to a national archive, and the ones that they lacked were sent there. Also discarded were four plaques listed the winners of the Omicron Nu Scholarship Award, but those were photocopied prior to being discarded, so as to preserve the information. WSU student Sam Boling processed this collection in early 2023. Duplicates of documents and photos were discarded, and documents were reorganized by subject.
