Content Description

This collection consists of a single item: a missal (liturgical book), 91 parchment leaves bound (31 x 49 cm), containing hymns for worship services. The contents encompass the portion of the liturgical calendar beginning with the vesper service for the Feast of Saint Jacob the Apostle (July 25) and concluding with the service for Exaltation of the Cross and Octava of the Virgin's birth (September 14). Consisting primarily of church music, this item was hand-produced on parchment in a Spanish monastery. A detailed description of this item is filed with the collection.

Administrative Information

Custodial History

The book was exhibited in the Spanish Village during the Chicago World's Fair of 1933-34, and was purchased at the close of the fair by a friend of WSC Dean, Herbert Kimbrough.

Acquisition Information

This collection was presented to the Washington State University Library, circa 1935, by President E. O. Holland, Vice President Herbert Kimbrough, Bursar W. C. Kruegel, and Registrar Frank T. Barnard.
