Historical Note
The Washington Yacht Club began in 1948 as the Husky Sailing Club, formed by UW Daily sports editor John Faulkner and experienced sailor Walt Hardman to promote sailing at the UW and sponsor an intercollegiate sailing team. The club welcomed sailing novices, who were taught by more experienced members. Throughout the following decades, the club’s popularity continued to grow, and its racing teams made a name for the UW as the top sailing school in the region. The club celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2023 and boasts an active membership to this day.
