Biographical Note
Glenn F. Maughmer (1901-1993), the recipient of these letters, was a 1923 WSC graduate who went on to a lengthy administrative career with General Electric, at various California offices.
Richard Milhous Nixon (1913-1994) was serving California in the House of Representatives when he sent the letter here, having just won a primary for the Senate. The Christmas card dates from that December, after winning the Senate election but before assuming the position. He would be later president of the United States from 1969 to 1974.
Content Description
The collection consists of two items. One is a single signed campaign letter addressed to G.F. Maughmer, thanking the recipient for their support of Nixon’s successful primary campaign for Senator, dated August 7, 1950. The other is a non-personalized Dec. 1950 Christmas card.
