Biographical Note

Born in Vranje, Serbia on February 15th, 1884, Theodore Kusakovich was the eldest son of Viktor and Alexandra Kusakovich. He had four sisters (Danica, Anuška, Marija, and Paraskeva) and two brothers (George and Nicholas). Theodore immigrated to Seattle around 1903, using the last name Kossage for a brief period of time before eventually returning to the surname Kusakovich. Sometime between 1910 and 1914,Theodore opened a bookstore and cigar shop called the Royal Serbian Authorized Book Store. Kusakovich officially became a United States naturalized citizen in 1940. He worked in construction and mining, and was a member of the International Hod Carriers Building and Common Labor Union and the Washington State Philatelic Society. He never married and had no children. Theodore Kusakovich died on December 12th, 1979 at the age of 95.

Photographs and ephemera documenting Theodore Kusakovich's life, work, and friends in the United States and family from Serbia from the 1900s to the 1970s. Collection includes photographs, pamphlets, letters, postcards, certificates, identification cards,and newspaper clippings both in Serbian and English.
