Biographical Note

Albert Orin Bumgardner, born in Chatham, Illinois in 1923, was an architect who moved to Seattle after earning a degree in architecture from the University of Illinois in 1949. He began his career working for the Army Corps of Engineers and Ralph Burkhart & Associates before starting his own practice in 1953. Bumgardner's firm received numerous awards, including several Seattle AIA Honor Awards and recognitions in publications like Pacific Architect & Builder and Sunset Magazine. His work included both residential and commercial projects, such as the Evergreen State College Residence Halls and the Summit Tower Apartments. Bumgardner was also involved in civic and professional activities, including leadership roles in the Seattle AIA and efforts in urban preservation. He passed away in 1987.
