Historical Note
The Willamette University School of Medicine was founded in the 1860s in Salem, and later moved to Portland in the 1870s. In 1915, Willamette University and the University of Oregon combined their medical programs to become the University of Oregon Medical School which would later go on to become Oregon Health & Science University.
The Multnomah School for Nurses opened in 1910 at the Multnomah County Hospital in Portland, Oregon as a 2-and-a-half year program open only to high school graduates. In 1919, the University of Oregon began offering nursing courses at its Portland Continuation Center and 13 years later, in 1932, the University of Oregon Medical School established a Department of Nursing Education on the Marquam Hill campus where the University of Oregon transferred all nursing curricula. Soon after, the Multnomah School for Nurses followed suit and merged with The Department of Nursing Education.
