Walter Mirisch was a film producer. In 1957, he formed the Mirisch Corporation with brother Marvin and half-brother Harold. In 1968, he won the Academy Award for Best Picture as producer of "In the Heat of the Night" (1967).

The collection primarily consists of music scores for fourteen movies produced by Walter Mirisch or produced through one of his companies: "The Apartment" (1960), "By Love Possessed" (1961), "The Children's Hour" (1961), "The Great Escape" (1963), "The Horse Soldiers" (1959), "Irma La Douce" (1963), "Kid Galahad" (1962), "The Magnificent Seven" (1960), "Man of the West" (1958), "One, Two, Three" (1961), "Some Like It Hot" (1959), "Toys in the Attic" (1963), "Two for the Seesaw" (1962), and "West Side Story" (1961). Also included are publicity and advertising materials for several movies.
