Historical Note

Alden Nash (1903-1996) was a playwright and screenwriter. Filmography includes the comedy We’re Rich Again (1934) that was adapted from Nash’s play And Let Who Will be Clever; uncredited dialogue writer for Gridiron Flash (1934), uncredited contributing writer for Magnificent Obsession (1935), story writer for Passport to Suez (1943), playwright for The Sainted Sisters (1948), adaptation of Man-Eater of Kumaon (1948) and screenwriter for Unwed Mother (1958).

Content Description

The collection contains correspondence between Nash and California and national lawmakers regarding the depressed state of the movie industry during the 1970s and ideas to combat the issue, a 140-page screenplay by Nash titled “Ten Little Kidnappers;” an article by Arnold M. Auerbach titled “He’s Flunking Buster Keaton!,” which is a satirical essay on the study of film; and a letter to the editor written by Nash that appeared in a publication of the Writers Guild of America, West, explaining and defending the Guild.
