Historical Note

Warren Kempton Page was born in Massachusetts and graduated from Harvard in 1931. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and became shooting editor of "Field & Stream" in 1947, a position he held until 1971. He authored more than 600 articles relating to hunting, fishing and firearms. Page was one of the founders of the National Shooting Sports Foundation and served as president. An internationally known hunter who hunted on all five continents, Page also authored "The Accurate Rifle" and "One Man's Wilderness" in 1973.

Content Description

Collection contains materials relating to Page's life as an author, hunter and conservationist. Included are biographical materials; personal and professional correspondence, as well as correspondence as Page's role as an agent for hunting safaris; manuscripts for his books, articles and speeches relating to safari trips, hunting and conservation; subject and research files with 3 ballistics testing research notebooks; photographs, negatives, slides and glass slides on fishing, guns, shooting and hunting, many of which were used in "Field and Stream"; 72 16 mm motion picture films and 2 33 1/3 rpm and 1 45 rpm phonograph records relating to a New Zealand hunting trip and wild game calling techniques; and materials relating to his presidency of the National Shooting Sports Foundation.
