Historical Note
Ruth Erwin Newton (1906-1987) grew up in Worland, Wyoming where her father owned the First National Bank. After she graduated high school, she and her father opened the Lusk State Bank in Niobrara Country where she worked as bookkeeper and teller. Her true passion lay with music, however, and she attended the University of Wyoming, the University of Nebraska and the University of Southern California in the pursuit of a music degree. Ruth married Harold F. Newton in 1930 who was involved in the dairy business. Upon visiting family in Wyoming, Harold learned of the sale of the Jersey Creamery in Sheridan. After purchasing the business, he and Ruth moved to Sheridan where they raised their family.
