Biographical Note
Albert E. Boorman was born on June 24, 1875, in Bagley, Wisconsin to James and Adell Gulick Boorman. He moved to Kalispell, Montana in 1899, but returned to Wisconsin the following year to marry Mary H. Schnee. After their marriage, the couple settled in Kalispell. Boorman worked as a secretary and inspector for the Montana Larch and Pine Company. From 1911 until 1946, he served as the secretary-treasurer and chief fire warden of the Northwestern Montana Forestry Association (NMFA). In addition to his work with the NMFA, Boorman was a member of the Kalispell City Council for three terms and served as mayor of Kalispell from 1922 until 1926. He was also a president of the Kalispell Chamber of Commerce, a master of Kalispell Lodge 42, a member of Kalispell Chapter 13 Royal Arch Masons, and involved in numerous other civic clubs and organizations. Albert and Mary had three children: Paul, Maurice, and Bertha. His son Maurice also served as chief fire warden for the NMFA from 1946-1972. Albert Boorman died on February 22, 1959, in Kalispell.
Content Description
This collection contains 124 print photographs of Northwestern Montana Forestry Association (NMFA) activities and crew members, including fires, lookouts, trail maintenance, and the annual company picnic at Albert Boorman’s property on McGregor Lake. Images of Montana Power Company’s construction of Kerr Dam (now called Seli'š Ksanka Qlispe' Dam) near Polson, Montana are also included. Finally, the collection holds a few photographs from Hungry Horse Dam.
