Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Corwin Hale "Coach" Likins was born on September 12, 1920 in Monte Vista, Colorado to Etta Smetters and Floyd Byran Likins. He attended the Barnes School of Business in Denver and attended the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. When the United States entered World War II, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. On March 14, 1943, Corwin Likins married Virginia "Peachy" Snyder; together, they had five children. After the war, Likins completed his college education at the University of Utah, graduating with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Likins worked as a mining executive for his career, including for the Calumet Mining and Refining Company and the Combined Metals Reduction Company. Beyond his career, Likins enjoyed coaching youth sports. Corwin Hale Likins died on March 13, 2011 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Calumet Mining and Refining Company photograph collection consists of 1 box containing 25 black-and-white photograph prints sized 4x5 or smaller. The donor, Corwin Likins, worked for the Calumet Mining and Refining Company and the Combined Metals Reduction Company during his career in mining, and material may depict operations from either company. Subjects include miners, ore, and mining equipment. The arrangment of the materials upon donation was maintained, with photos being organized according to the letters they were attached to.
