Historical Note

Roderick R. Asher was a geologist. He received his BA in 1959 and his MA in 1968; both in Geology. His MA thesis was titled “Geology and Mineral Resources of a Portion of the Silver City Region, Owyhee County, Idaho.” Asher worked for Cerro de Pasco (Peru), Idaho Bureau of Mines, and Alaska Bureau of Mines as Chief Mining Engineer, Division of Mines and Geology. From 1970-1996 he worked for a variety of corporations (NL Industries, Union Pacific, Hun Energy, FMC, Tenneco, Echo Bay, Pegasus Gold, Atlas, and Meridian Gold) based primarily in Mexico, Colorado, Nevada, and Idaho. Starting in 1996 Asher worked as an independent consultant, based out of Nevada, until his death in 1997.

Collection contains maps, field notebooks, research journals, reports, publications, and budget and travel information regarding Asher’s professional life as a geologist with state agencies in Alaska and Idaho, multiple private mining companies, and independent consultant work primarily in Nevada including history of Comstock, Idaho, Oregon, and Alaska.
