Biographical Note

David P. Gardner was born March 24, 1933 in Berkeley, California. He received a B.A. degree from Brigham Young University in 1955 and M.A. and Ph.D degrees from the University of California, Berkeley in 1959 and 1966, respectively. David P. Gardner succeeded Alfred C. Emery as President of the University of Utah on August 1, 1973. He resigned in 1983 to become President of the University of California System of Higher Education.
