Wesley Chamberlin Neff (1918-1945) was a University of Utah alumnus who served in the United States Air Force during World War II and died in an accident while serving in Germany in 1945. This collection contains black-and-white photographs depicting Neff's military service and his wife, Mary Glass Neff, as well as ephemera and clippings related to Neff's inclusion in World War II memorials.

Biographical Note

Wesley Chamberlin Neff (1918-1945) was born on May 23, 1918 in Millcreek, Utah, to Ivy Louise Chamberlin and Eugene Jefferson Neff. Neff attended the University of Utah, where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. In the early 1940s, Neff joined the United States Air Force and fought in World War II, achieving the rank of 1st Lieutenant. In 1943, he married Mary Glass (1924-2013) in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Mary Glass was born on August 13, 1924 in Harrison, Arkansas, to Ruth Worthington and William Palmer Glass. William C. Neff died in a plane accident over Germany on July 10, 1945. Mary Glass Neff remarried to Ivan F. Adler (1908-1994). Mary Glass Adler died on May 31, 2013.

Content Description

The Wesley Chamberlin Neff photograph collection consists of 1 box containing 51 black-and-white prints depicting Neff's military service and his relationships with his wife Mary Glass Neff from approximately 1940 until 1945. It also contains photographs of unidentified friends and family of Mary Glass and Wesley Neff. The colleciton also contains newspaper clippings and print ephemera documenting Neff's death and inclusion in World War II memorialization.
