Historical Note

Eugene F. Todd was the Rector Emeritus of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Cheyenne, WY. Born in 1928 in Sheridan, WY, he was the fifth of seven children of Fred and Gladys Todd, who owned a cattle ranch on Piney Creek. Todd attended schools in Ucross and Claremont, WY, before earning a BA from the University of Denver in 1951. He married Shirley Hall in 1953 and earned a Master of Theology from the Iliff School of Theology in 1954. Todd began his ministry as a chaplain at the University of South Dakota, where he also pursued an MA in history. He was ordained into the Episcopal priesthood in 1962 and served as rector in Green River before moving to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Cheyenne in 1965, where he served for twenty-seven years. In 1975, he married Rosemary Fleming Adamson. Todd was honored with the title of Rector Emeritus in 2001 and authored several books, including “Recollections of a Piney Creek Rancher,” “The Todd Legacy,” and “Tales & Irreverancies of a Country Parson.” He passed away in Cheyenne in August 2014.

This collection contains Eugene Todd’s sermons and the manuscript for his theological published work. Also included are copies of “Recollections of a Piney Creek Rancher,” and “The Todd Legacy,” as well as his obituary, and two portraits of Eugene Todd.
