William Toll (1941-2015) was a professor in the history department at the University of Oregon. His research and courses included African American and Jewish history. He earned his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley.

Content Description

The William Toll faculty papers collection consists of teaching files, subject files, research notes, manuscripts, and correspondence. Materials cover topics including American cities in the 20th Century, Jews in America, history of the American West, African-American history, and Japanese-American history. Teaching files consist of course materials such as lecture notes, overhead projector sheets, research material (e.g. annotated copies of archival papers, sections of books, articles, photographs, and maps), notes relating to research material, clippings, course packets, course syllabi, course assignment instructions, and student materials (e.g. class rosters, graded assignments, course grades, and personal correspondence). Subject files consist of materials such as manuscripts; correspondence; research notes; notecards; bibliographies; annotated copies of archival papers, sections of books, articles, census documents, photographs, and maps; clippings; trip itineraries; and lecture notes.
