Historical Note

Curtis began his career as a photographer with his brother Edward. He split from his brothers business in 1897. He proceeded to establish a photography studio in 1911. Asahel Curtis spend most of his career photographic Washington's nature, and natural resources.

Content Description

This collection consists of one album, illustrated by 93 images by noted Washington photographer Asahel Curtis (1874-1941). The images date from the 1890s, but were compiled in 1929 into an official report created by the Seattle Chamber of Commerce and the Columbia Basin Irrigation League, for the Army Corps of Engineers. This album is Appendix C of the Investigation and Survey of Columbia River above the mouth of the Snake River. Each photo has a caption, and a map provides a key to the location where each image was captured.
