Historical Note

The Office of International Programs was established in 1963 to consolidate Washington State University's international counseling services with the administration of its international study programs. The Office was organized under a Coordinator who was responsible for overseeing each of the office's three divisions: International Programs, the International Student Center, and the Pakistan Project. The office was reorganized in 1966 so that the different programs fell under the responsibility of the Director of International Programs and Campus Coordinator of the Pakistan Project, the Adviser to International Students, and the International Student Center. In 1971 the office was reorganized under a Director, Assistant Director, and International Student Advisor. A Foreign Study Advisor was added in 1972. The Office operated under this organization until 1979 when it was reorganized to operate under a Director and Associate Director with Foreign Students and Faculty and Overseas Programs divisions. The inclusion of an Intensive American Language Center in 1983 and a Development Project Students division in 1984 completed the office's present organization. The purpose of the Office of International Programs is to administer and coordinate international projects, activities, and services sponsored by Washington State University. Specific functions include: development and administration of overseas projects; administering student educational exchanges between Washington State University and foreign universities; providing assistance to foreign students on campus; and coordinating programs with foreign student sponsoring agencies.
