Biographical Note

Karl Gozo Yoneda (July 15, 1906 - May 9, 1999) was a Japanese American labor activist and union organizer. He was prominent in the 1930s with helping workers unionize in California and Washington, helping to organize and participate in the 1934 Pacific Coast Maritime Strike in San Francisco. After he and his family were interned at Manzanar, he went on to serve in World War II as a Japanese language specialist for the U.S. Army. His later years were spent opposing the Vietnam War and nuclear proliferation as well as serving with other socially progressive causes.
