Biographical Note

Arthur Meehan came to Spokane in 1910. He graduated from Gonzaga University and worked in various public positions before becoming commissioner of public works in 1942. Meehan served as mayor of Spokane from 1945 to 1955. Large civic improvements initiated during his mayoral tenure included the Coliseum, the Maple Street Bridge, Ben Garnet Way, and large sewer projects.

Content Description

The collection contains photographs of Meehan during civic events with dignitaries visiting Spokane during his tenure as mayor; a scrapbook of clippings relative to Meehan’s sports activities while in college; articles of incorporation for the Shadow Peak Mining Co., 1930; one letter, stock certificates, account and stock ledgers from the Silver Mountain Mining Co., 1929-1935; and articles of incorporation for the Masonic Temple Association, Spokane, 1901.
