Historical Note
Kenneth William “Red” Hight (1934–2021) was a farmer, rancher, and electrician who lived in Colorado, Wyoming, Alaska, Oregon, and Utah. He was born in April 1934 in Colorado to Curtis William Hight and Lola Bessie Hight and earned his nickname “Red” due to the color of his hair. From 1934 to 1949, his family moved frequently across Colorado for farming and ranching work before settling in Wyoming. Hight graduated from Morton High School near Kinnear, Wyoming, in 1952. He attended the University of Wyoming as a first-generation college student and earned a degree in agricultural mechanics in 1961 after a brief enlistment in the Army. In 1969, he married Eunice Ann John, with whom he had four children.
Hight’s career began in farming and ranching, but in 1976, he transitioned to a 25-year career as an electrician, working across the United States. He retired in 2007 but remained active, assisting with various electrical, mechanical, and agricultural projects. A convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1972, Hight was a dedicated member for the rest of his life. He passed away in March 2021 at the age of 87.
