Biographical Note

Amerigo Serrao (d.1960) was born in Italy. After serving with the British in World War I, Serrao began acting. This led to a career in the English film industry. In the 1920's, Serrao moved to the United States and began directing and producing films. During his career, Serrao's aliases included: Arthur Varney, Peter Lee Varney, Grover Lee, and Peter Locke. As Arthur Varney, Serrao is creditied with such films as Almost a Divorce and The Eternal Feminine. Serrao was the companion of fellow film maker Nell Shipman for twenty years.
