Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Joy Ju was born in 1865 in Kaiping, Guangdong Province, China. He immigrated to the United States at an unknown date and settled in Utah. Lee "Mary" She (or Shee) was born in approximately 1902 in Guangzhou, or Canton, China. They married on March 22, 1922; together, they had nine children: Henry, Tonley, Songley, Pingley, Chaunley, Albert, David, Leonard, and Betty. Joy and Lee She Ju owned a farm in Salt Lake City at 2100 South and 300 West. After the land was sold to Bennett Paint, the family moved to Magna. They were known for their white celery. Joy Ju died on July 29, 1954. After Joy's death, Lee She Ju struggled support her nine children, and after receiving assistance from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, the family converted to the religion. Lee She "Mary" Ju died on November 12, 1965.

The Joy and Lee She Ju digital photograph collection consists of 4 digital-only images. The images were scanned from photograph prints and returned to the donor. The images consist of two formal portraits of Lee "Mary" She Ju and two photographs of Joy Ju outside on his farm. The images are undated and date from approximately 1922 to 1965.
