Biographical Note
Don Wallen (1945-1997) started working as a staff photographer for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer in 1969. Before leaving the position in 1973, he received numerous awards for his photography of the people of Seattle and local sporting events. Wallen later became the chief photographer for Today Newspaper (1974-1976) and Seattle Weekly (1977-1978). As he transitioned to freelance work, he did photo editing for the Seattle Gay News and contributed photography to local magazines such as the Advocate, Drummer, and In Touch. Expanding his local reach, his photography has been exhibited in galleries and museums across the United States.

Content Description
Photographic prints, negatives, slides, posters, personal and professional correspondence, clippings, magazines, ephemera, financial records, and other materials from a Seattle-based professional photographer. This collection includes photojournalism for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer and other area publications, as well as art photography. Wallen's photojournalism largely focuses on sports, local events, and people in Seattle. Papers include editions of Seattle Gay News .
