Historical Note
The Geo-Heat Center opened on the Oregon Tech campus in 1975, and was originally named the Geo-Heat Utilization Center. The primary focus of the Center was to disseminate information and provide technical assistance to potential and existing users of geothermal resources, to publish technical papers and a quarterly newsletter on the progress and development of direct-use geothermal energy in the U.S. and other countries, and to undertake applied research. For a long time the Klamath Falls campus was the only one in the world to be geothermally heated. It was later joined by the University of Iceland and 2 in the United States: New Mexico State University and Idaho State University. The Geo-Heat Center closed in 2015.
