Grace Thorson Brown attended Jamestown College in Jamestown, North Dakota. She was employed as an elementary teacher at the Japanese Relocation Camp at Heart Mountain, Wyoming for the 1942-43 school year. She left Heart Mountain to continue her education at the University of Wyoming.

The Grace Thorson Brown papers contain material mainly relating to Brown’s experiences while teaching at Heart Mountain. Newspaper clippings pertaining to Japanese Relocation in general and specifically to Heart Mountain are included. The collection also contains photographs of teachers and students at Heart Mountain, as well as student newspapers and some employment records. War Relocation Authority documents and correspondence are also included, along with Japanese American National Museum information regarding an event honoring former relocation camp teachers.
