Biographical Note

Bob Weatherly was the principal historian of Asotin County, Washington. Weatherly was born Feb. 28, 1921 at Clarkston, Washington. He spent much of his life in Asotin and Garfield counties, the exception being some years (1942-1953) in the United Sta tes Navy. He was a partner in a ranch located in Asotin and Garfield Counties until his retirement in 1985. He lived at Asotin from about 1960 until his death.

Weatherly was the author of several books and many newspaper features on local history, and was long active in local historical groups. He was also a collector of antique and historic objects of all kinds. Weatherly died at Clarkston in December of 1997.

Administrative Information

Arrangement

The papers consist almost entirely of foldered research materials, made up of notes, correspondence, news clippings, copies of historical documents, pamphlets and other such ephemeral literature, maps, and a great many photographs. Most of these rese arch materials are organized as one long alphabetical sequence of subject files, with some unordered files following. Shorter sequences concern schools and cemeteries. The papers are retained with Weatherly's folder titles and alphabetization practices. The folder titles do not present the dates of the contents.

Acquisition Information

The papers of Robert Weatherly of Asotin, Washington, were transferred to the Washington State University Libraries in February and March of 1998 (MS98-06 and MS98-10) by the executor of Mr. Weatherly's estate.
