Historical Note

A Wyoming University Extension Association was formed in 1891 to offer lectures and farmers' institutes to agriculturists in Wyoming. National action toward the same goal came with the Smith-Lever act of 1914, which mandated creation of cooperative extension services at Land Grant universities. As Wyoming's Land-Grant University, the University of Wyoming oversaw the Cooperative Extension Service, which provided non-formal educational opportunities to improve the lives of Wyoming's citizens. Cooperative Extension offered advice, information, and resources in topics of agriculture, horticulture, family life, nutrition, and 4-H/Youth Development. The University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service was changed to University of Wyoming Extension in 2011.
